Essential oils can be used in various ways, depending on the type of oil and your intended use.
methods of using essential oils
Aromatherapy Diffusion
Use a diffuser to disperse essential oils into the air. Add a few drops of your chosen oil to water in the diffuser to create a pleasant aroma in your space.
Topical Application
Dilute essential oils with a carrier oil (like coconut oil, jojoba oil, or almond oil) before applying them to the skin. A typical dilution is 2-3 drops of essential oil per teaspoon of carrier oil. Ensure you do a patch test first to check for skin sensitivity.
Inhalation
Place a drop or two of essential oil on a tissue or cotton ball and inhale. Alternatively, you can add a few drops to a bowl of hot water, cover your head with a towel, and inhale the steam (be cautious with hot water).
Bathing
Add a few drops of essential oil to a warm bath. It’s best to mix it with a carrier oil or an emulsifier (like milk or Epsom salts) to help it disperse in the water.
Massage
Use diluted essential oils in massage oils for relaxation or pain relief. You can create your own blends or choose calming oils like lavender or eucalyptus for this purpose.
Household Use
Some essential oils can be used for cleaning. Add them to homemade cleaners or mix with water in a spray bottle for a natural air freshener.
Skin Care
Certain essential oils can benefit the skin, but they must be diluted. Oils like tea tree oil can be used for acne, while lavender can be soothing
Hair Care
Add a few drops of essential oil to your shampoo or conditioner for various benefits, such as improving scalp health or adding fragrance.
